USS Chaffee Shipmates,
Greetings from your friendly Reunion Coordinator, Barry Goodall! I just want to update everyone on the latest plan for scheduled events. There are only two planned events set in stone. They are on Monday afternoon of September 25th, and Tuesday evening Sept. 26th. On Monday the 25th, as a group, we will travel by coach bus to downtown Louisville and visit the World War Two Memorial. There are some things still up in the air as far as what will take place at the Memorial, wreath laying ceremony….etc. At the conclusion of the Memorial visit, we then re-board our bus and drive across the Ohio River where we will board “The Star of Louisville”. This will be a two and a half hour dinner cruise. I have been on “The Star of Louisville” once before. The food is great, and the atmosphere and scenery are fantastic. I have made reservations for 30 people. More can be added later, but I had to sign an initial contract, so I estimated the headcount by how many shipmates have presently committed to attend this year’s reunion. The cost for the dinner and cruise is $39.17 per person, including tax. This includes all of your food, and unlimited soft drinks. There is a cash bar available. There is also music and dancing for those that want to stretch their legs out a little. By the way, the ship is air-conditioned.
On Tuesday the 26th of September it will be considered “Ladies Day”. We will leave it up to the ladies to decide what we want to do. Now all you ladies don’t think that I am such a sweet guy, although I really am, but this was Bob Christ’s idea. Later that evening we will have a “Farewell Dinner”. This will be catered at the hotel. This dinner will be free of charge thanks to some local sponsors that have donated to our cause.
